Shabbat Shirah – Parashat Beshalach
Flo Miller will be conducting services. This will be a very special Shabbat service as Flo will be chanting from the Holocaust Torah which is only used once a year for Shabbat Shirah. She will be chanting “Song of the Sea” whose melody differs from most other portions of the Torah. This melody might be considered more joyful and lyrical, which is another way to set this portion apart from the rest. In this portion, the Israelites have just been freed from Egypt and we read about the splitting of the Red Sea. Services will be followed by a special Kiddush to celebrate the holiday of Tu B’Shevat which celebrates the New Year of the Trees. It is customary to eat dried fruits and nuts and we are working on some recipes which incorporate these ingredients. Please join us for a beautiful Shabbat morning service!
